Most commercial building metal roofs use industrial R-panel metal roof panels with exposed fasteners or the
newer architectural standing-seam roof panels. R-panel metal roofs have a history of
developing roof leaks over their service life due to the exposed fasteners and the overlapped
side panel seams. Both metal roof panel types can have complex surface profiles and what is called
striations or pencil beading to structurally strengthen the metal roof panels and limiting oil canning and make PV module attachment difficult..
SolarSeal Technologies™ PV Metal Roof Systems solves
the problems encountered with traditional photovoltaic to metal roof installation methods.
SolarSeal Technologies™ has different installation solutions for different metal roof panel profiles.
Both R-type roof panels and the architectural snap seam metal panels are waterproofed using
elastomeric coatings designed to work with each specific type of metal roof surface.
Once the metal roof is waterproofed, inter-ply construction elements are used to bridge
any irregular metal panel surfaces and exposed fasteners. The inter-ply components are flashed and sealed to the
metal roof panels. Photovoltaic module are interfaced with the inter-ply components and the PV module package is flashed and sealed,
creating a continuous, seamless, waterproofed roof surface, that generates renewable energy
from the sun.
The SolarSeal Roof System™ provides a long term solar waterproofing solution that is easy to
maintain and can be renewed without affecting the photovoltaic
system’s power production. The different attachment configuration and using a white elastomeric coating reduces the metal roof surface temperature, lowering cooling cost.
